Switching from Mounjaro to Wegovy

Medicspot is now able to offer existing and new patients the option of switching from Mounjaro (tirzepatide) to Wegovy injections or Wegovy tablets (semaglutide). After the recent Mounjaro price increase, Wegovy is now a more cost-effective medication than Mounjaro.

Like Mounjaro, Wegovy injections are a weekly self-injected GLP-1 medication which helps you feel fuller for longer. Like Mounjaro, each Wegovy pen contains 4 doses (a 4 week supply). Wegovy tablets are an oral medication, taken daily.

In clinical trials, Wegovy injections have been shown to help patients lose up to ~20% of their bodyweight, and Wegovy tablets have been shown to enable weight loss of ~17%.

General dosage guide for switching from Mounjaro injections to Wegovy injections

Wegovy injections come in various doses. Patients can choose to:

  1. start from the lowest dose (0.25mg) to see how they respond to the medication
  2. request to start from a higher dose (if you have already been taking a higher dose of Mounjaro).

Please note: the prescribing clinician will determine which dose (if any) is the most suitable for your treatment. Requesting a specific dose does not guarantee that it will be prescribed.

Please see the chart below to understand which doses of Wegovy injections may be suitable when switching from Mounjaro. Find your current Mounjaro dose on the left hand side and read across the row. You may be eligible for any Wegovy doses in green, but you will not be eligible for any Wegovy injection doses in red.

For example, a patient currently taking the 15mg Mounjaro dose may be eligible to switch to the 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1.0mg or 1.7mg Wegovy injection – but not the 2.4mg or 7.2mg doses.

General dosage guide for switching from Mounjaro injections to Wegovy tablets

Wegovy tablets come in various doses. Patients can choose to:

  1. start from the lowest dose (1.5mg) to see how they respond to the medication
  2. request to start from a higher dose (if you have already been taking a higher dose of Mounjaro).

Please note: the prescribing clinician will determine which dose (if any) is the most suitable for your treatment. Requesting a specific dose does not guarantee that it will be prescribed.

Please see the chart below to understand which doses of Wegovy tablets may be suitable when switching from Mounjaro injections. Find your current Mounjaro dose on the top row and read down the column. You may be eligible for any Wegovy tablet doses in green, but you will not be eligible for any doses in red.

For example, a patient currently taking the 15mg Mounjaro dose may be eligible to switch to the 1.5mg, 4mg or 9mg Wegovy tablets – but not the 25mg dose.

How to switch from Mounjaro to Wegovy

For existing Medicspot patients

To switch to Wegovy (either injections or tablets) just go through the normal re-ordering process in your dashboard, and at the end of the questionnaire you’ll be able to choose which medication you would prefer. You are able to re-order 14 days after your previous order has been fulfilled.

For new patients

To switch from Mounjaro with your current provider to Wegovy with Medicspot:

  1. Start an online consultation and create an account.
  2. Select Wegovy (injections or tablets) as your preferred treatment on the product selection screen, and complete your subscription.
  3. Our clinicians will review your consultation and prescribe the medication if it is safe and appropriate to do so. Alternatively they may ask you for more information, or decline to prescribe if it is not appropriate.

Wash-out period when switching from Mounjaro to Wegovy

When switching from Mounjaro injections to Wegovy injections or Wegovy tablets, we recommend a 7-day wash-out period.

This means you should wait one week after your last Mounjaro injection before taking your first Wegovy dose.

tip

An easy way to remember this is to take your first Wegovy dose on the day your next Mounjaro dose would have been due.

This short break allows your body to reset, reduces the risk of overlapping side effects, and ensures a smooth transition between medications.

Evidence required to switch

To make sure your switch is safe and medically appropriate, we ask for:

  • A full-body photo (so we can confirm your BMI and eligibility)
  • Proof of your last Mounjaro pen, such as the box label or an order confirmation or invoice

These checks help our clinicians prescribe the right dose for you with confidence and meet UK regulatory requirements.

What to expect after switching

It’s normal to notice a few changes after switching medications:

  • Your appetite may feel different at first as your body adjusts
  • Mild side effects such as nausea or changes in digestion can occur
  • Weight loss may slow temporarily as you find the right dose, but this is normal and expected

Our team is here to support you throughout the process and can adjust your dose if needed.
